Aviation Gateway

Aviation Gateway

Aviation Gateway gives students the chance to get a flying start in their future aviation careers, whether they are considering training as pilots, aircraft engineers, air traffic controllers, ground operations staff or flight attendants.

ATTTO's Aviation Gateway resources give students an introduction to the aviation industry, its background and make up. Any student can complete the resources within this programme, whether or not they are able to secure an aviation work placement.

For those students with the motivation and ability, Gateway also offers the opportunity to gain real on-the-job experience in an aviation workplace. Appropriate workplaces include local aero clubs, airlines, airline agents, air charter services, aircraft sales and maintenance, and air freight companies. Schools can arrange their own work placements or speak to ATTTO about opportunities we offer.

ATTTO flight training and engineering programmes

ATTTO, in conjunction with aero clubs, runs tailored Gateway flight training programmes in Christchurch, Nelson and Auckland, which enable a small number of eligible senior students to take their first steps towards becoming professional pilots. In 2011 we will introduce a similar programme in Christchurch for aeronautical engineering. It is hoped both of these programmes will eventually be available across the country.

Students selected for these programmes will spend one afternoon a week visiting local employers, gaining hands on experience in real workplaces and hearing from industry representatives. For more information please contact one of our Industry and Schools Training Advisors.

Career Pathway Options

All Aviation Gateway students choose unit standards from the list below. The unit standards can be used towards completion of a National Certificate in Aviation (Level 2).

Students can choose to do some or all of the unit standards.

Students who complete all units will only need 24 more credits to gain the Level 2 certificate. From there, students can then move on to further training in their area of interest, whether that’s through a tertiary institute or via workplace training, such as a Modern Apprenticeship.

ATTTO has Level 3 aviation qualifications available in the following areas:

  • Aeronautical Engineering
  • Aeronautical Storekeeping
  • Airport Operations
  • Aviation (Private Pilot)
  • International Air Express
